Comprehensive Coverage for Auto Insurance
Comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance may also be referred to on your auto policy as "other than collision". Comprehensive covers damages from:
Fire
Theft
Vandalism
Objects falling or flying through the air
Hitting or getting hit by an animal
Natural disasters
Comprehensive coverage in general covers incidents that are not necessarily your fault. For this reason, comprehensive claims don't usually impact your rate the way a collision claim would. Also comprehensive coverage is much less to have on your auto policy compared to collision coverage, so when talking with your agent ask for a lower comprehensive deductible compared to your collision deductible. Even if you drop collision on an older vehicle it may be a good idea to keep comprehensive coverage on the vehicle, especially if it's not garaged.
