So you lend your car to a friend or family member who isn’t listed on your auto insurance and they get into an accident. Whose insurance will pay for this?

In New Jersey, car insurance follows the car. This means your car insurance will cover the vehicle and not your friend’s or family member’s insurance.  Before lending your vehicle to anyone make sure they have their own car insurance since if they do get into an accident you want them to have liability insurance and medical insurance, which are both required to have on your auto insurance in the state of NJ.
